GDC survey: sentiment on generative AI flips hard — most devs now say it’s bad
Another GDC survey result shows a sharp swing: over half of developers now say generative AI is bad for the industry, a steep rise compared with sentiment from two years ago.

The reasons are familiar but intensifying: fear of job erosion, concerns about training-data ethics, and frustration that “AI adoption” is sometimes treated as a headcount strategy rather than a creative tool. Developers also worry about a quality trap—fast content, weaker craft, more sameness.
Even if AI tools keep improving, this is a warning sign: resistance isn’t just technical, it’s cultural. Studios that want adoption may have to earn trust with clear policies, opt-outs, and credit / compensation norms.
