FORTNITE v40.20 DAY: DOWNTIME, NEW PATCH, AND SAVE THE WORLD GOES FREE-TO-PLAY

Fortnite goes into scheduled downtime for v40.20, and Save the World becomes free-to-play today.

What it means for gamers: practically, your group chat will spend more time coordinating update downloads than coordinating strategy. But the bigger consequence is Save the World’s audience jumping overnight. When a paid mode flips free, two things happen: (1) more players means healthier matchmaking and more “newbie energy,” and (2) veterans suddenly become unpaid tour guides. Expect lots of “Wait, this mode has been here the whole time?” reactions. And yes, the funniest part is that many players will discover they like PvE more than PvP… inside the game famous for PvP dances.
