Starfield finally touches down on PS5 — and it brought a “make space travel fun” overhaul with it

Starfield launches on PlayStation 5 today, alongside the big “Free Lanes” update (and Terran Armada DLC on top, if you want more story). Free Lanes adds Cruise Mode so you can actually fly around inside a star system, new encounters, a new upgrade resource called X-Tech, outpost sharing, a big database QoL system, and more. In Europe, the PS5 unlock time is listed as 17:00 (CET).

What it means for gamers: this is the rare “new platform launch + meaningful systemic refresh” combo. If Starfield didn’t click for you before, this is the best excuse yet to try again (especially if you wanted more real space travel and deeper gear/ship tinkering). For everyone else, it means more players, more builds, more guides, and your social feeds becoming 80% spaceship screenshots.
