Toei Games Enters the Arena With Three Original Indies Instead of Dragon Ball Bait
Toei Games has revealed its first three published titles: KILLA, HINO, and DEBUG NEPHEMEE. The surprising part is what these games are not. They are not Dragon Ball, One Piece, Sailor Moon, Digimon, or any other famous Toei-linked anime property. Instead, Toei is starting its game publishing push with original indie-style projects from creators in Japan and abroad.
For gamers, that is actually more interesting than the obvious licensed cash-in route. Licensed anime games can be fun, but they often carry heavy fan expectations and tight creative limits. By beginning with original IP, Toei Games is trying to build credibility as a publisher rather than simply renting nostalgia from its own empire.
The impact could be positive for indie developers if Toei brings production experience, marketing muscle, and global reach without forcing every project into a recognizable brand box. The risk is discoverability: original games need strong identity fast. But if Toei succeeds, players could get a new Japanese publishing label that backs unusual, creator-led projects instead of just another anime adaptation factory.
