Virtuos says it wants to bring GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 to Switch
Virtuos has put two huge Rockstar ports on its public wish list: Grand Theft Auto 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 for Nintendo Switch. In an interview picked up by VGC, Virtuos technical director Andy Fong said the team is eager to adapt both games for Nintendo’s platform and believes they could shine again in handheld form. This is not an announcement, and Rockstar has not confirmed anything, but it is still worth noting because Virtuos has history here. The studio previously worked with Rockstar on the Switch port of L.A. Noire, and it has handled other demanding ports such as XCOM 2 and The Outer Worlds. For players, the obvious question is whether this would mean original Switch, Switch 2, or both. GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 are massive, technically heavy games, and Switch 2 would make much more sense if Rockstar ever wanted proper modern portable versions. For now, this is ambition rather than confirmation, but the idea of Red Dead 2 on a Nintendo handheld will absolutely get people talking.
