Star Fox announced for Switch 2 with June 25 launch date

Star Fox is finally returning, and Nintendo has made the announcement in a very Nintendo way: through a surprise Star Fox Direct on the Nintendo Today app. The new game is simply titled Star Fox and launches for Nintendo Switch 2 on June 25, 2026. According to Nintendo Life, this is essentially a cinematic take on Star Fox 64, with new character looks, extra cutscenes, a bigger story focus and a prologue involving James McCloud. The game also adds modern Switch 2 features such as Mouse Mode for aiming, GameShare, two Joy-Con 2 co-op control options and multiplayer built around a 4-vs-4 setup featuring Star Fox and Star Wolf characters. That makes this more than a simple visual touch-up, even if some fans may be frustrated that Nintendo is revisiting Star Fox 64 again instead of creating a completely new adventure. For Switch 2, though, it is a strong first-party surprise and a good sign that Nintendo is willing to revive dormant series when the timing is right.
