Hand-drawn Metroidvania Constance arrives on PS5, Xbox Series and Switch
Constance is now reaching console players, with Gematsu listing the hand-drawn action adventure for PS5, Xbox Series and Switch on May 1. The game first arrived on PC in November 2025, but its console release could give it a second chance to find the audience that often embraces stylish Metroidvania games on handheld and living-room systems.
The premise is immediately distinctive: players control a paintbrush-wielding artist trying to escape a colorful but decaying inner world shaped by her declining mental health. That gives the game a visual and emotional identity beyond simply unlocking new rooms and abilities. For players, Constance fits into the same broad appeal zone as expressive 2D action adventures where movement, mood and world design matter just as much as combat.
On Switch, it may work particularly well as a handheld experience, while PS5 and Xbox players get another boutique action-platformer in a month full of bigger releases. The most important question is whether its platforming and combat feel as refined as its art direction looks.
