PS5, PS5 Pro and PlayStation Portal price increases take effect in Southeast Asia

PlayStation hardware is now more expensive in several Southeast Asian markets, with Sony’s updated recommended retail prices taking effect on May 1. The changes cover PS5, PS5 Digital Edition, PS5 Pro and PlayStation Portal across countries including Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines and Vietnam.
For GameForce Asia readers, this is a practical story because it directly affects purchasing decisions in the region. Console price increases can slow adoption, push buyers toward used hardware, extend the life of older systems, or make Game Pass, PC handhelds and Switch 2 alternatives more attractive.
Sony says the move is linked to continued pressures in the global economic landscape, but the impact will be felt locally by players who were waiting for discounts or planning upgrades. Indonesia, for example, now lists PS5 at IDR 11,399,000 and PS5 Digital Edition at IDR 9,999,000. In Malaysia, PS5 is listed at MYR 2,799 and PS5 Pro at MYR 3,999. The bigger question is whether software bundles, retailer promotions or trade-in offers can soften the hit.
